Kenya Institute of Special Education, Nairobi

The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) successfully secured support from the National Research Fund (NRF) to equip the National Psycho-Educational, Assessment, and Research Centre (NPEARC). The facility, a key referral centre for special needs and disability research and training in East and Central Africa, saw its capacity significantly boosted. This enhancement enabled lecturers at KISE and other institutions to improve their research, teaching, and innovation in special needs and disability (SN&D). Research findings from NPEARC are now helping to shape policy and practice in special needs education. Additionally, emerging issues and trends in assistive devices for persons with disabilities have been integrated into the design and production of appropriate assistive technologies.
